A Fruit Called Peace

This week we studied how the Holy Spirit produces the fruit of Peace in the lives of Christians. This can be done in internal personal peace, peace in relationships, and increasing peace in the world. Too often we only think of peace as an absence of chaos or violence, but the Spirit produces in us the ability and desire to actively produce peace where there is currently only conflict. In this way, we are transformed by God's peace and then go and transform the world with the peace that is now in us. We truly become peacemakers.

A Fruit Called Joy

There's an important difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is based on circumstances and often runs only surface deep. But joy is rooted in something deeper that when challenged by suffering is not bothered. Joy overcomes circumstances and produces greater faith. 

A Fruit Called Love

The 9 #1: This is the first sermon in a nine week series on the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. The sermon began with a brief discussion about how the Holy Spirit works in our lives and then moves into studying love, the first fruit the Spirit produces in Christians. It's important to know that the love the Spirit produces is not just intended to help us love differently, but to guide us to love different people. We should show love and care to all people and not just the ones who are easy to love.

God Says Yes!

So often we get caught up on whether God will answer our questions and problems with "Yes" or "No" but we must always remember that in Christ the answer is already and will always be "YES!" So let's start thanking God for all of the blessings past, present and future.

The Glory of God

While we should have an intimate and personal relationship with God, we must also be careful that we never allow God to become ordinary. God is not something to be casual about or bored with. God's glory is his public facing demonstration of all of God's infinite traits and it is completely overwhelming to people who come in contact with it. And now, God's glory is in us, who demonstrate all of God's goodness and awesomeness to the world.

The Hands of God

We sometimes think of God as being a long time ago and far, far away. But this study on the Hands of God shows us that God creates us, forms us, shapes us, protects us, loves us, provides for us, and that nothing can remove us from his hands. In fact, God loves us so much that he wrote our name on his palms. This journey through Genesis, Psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and John shows God's hands are loving and involved in our lives like a farmer, grandmother, potter, mother, father, and Shepherd. If you don't know how much God loves you then it's time to take a look at God's hands.

Wearing the Word of God

The Bible is more than an instruction book, a love letter, a book of history, or even a library of books. It is the Word of God that is active and alive. When we fill our hearts and minds with God's Word we become transformed and shaped into the image of Jesus Christ. When we only get a little bit of God's Word in our life it can become dangerous in the hands of Satan. But when we truly immerse ourselves in God's Word, its like a scalpel in the hands of the Master Potter, working us into his masterpiece.

Your New Name

This sermon concludes the series on how God desires new beginnings to be a time of growth and transformation for Christians. This week focuses on how God will give us a new name if we will only trust and persevere and remain faithful in a world that tries to pull us away from God. The new name is a symbol of God's new purpose, new gifts, new identity that he has for each one of us who are faithful.

(Guest Speaker) Pat Brown presents an encouraging update about the incredible work going on with World Bible School and the long history of its partnership with Northwest Church of Christ. Currently, they are pushing a major campaign to provide Bibles and Bible studies to millions of people around the world. This lesson also focused on the importance of every Christian being wholeheartedly devoted to God in every area of their life.

Second Birthday

Sometimes we get the idea that once you become a Christian things will start to change for you. But when you read Paul's New Testament writings, he believes that once you become a Christian nothing will ever be the same again. This lesson challenges us to evaluate if we have experienced the radical change that God truly desires for us or if we are still being held back. If so, isn't it time to cast off whatever is hindering us and run the race Christ has marked before us?
