The Historical Jesus

Is it possible somebody just made up the Jesus story? Was he real? Did he live? What difference did he make? How can we really know any of it for sure. This sermon looks at the historical documents that are the NT Gospels and discusses how certain we can be of the events and significance of the life of Jesus. 

Messianic Job Description

Isaiah 52-53 gives us the super secret hidden in plain sight job description of Israel's Messiah, but few people understood it. Then Jesus came and fully embodied it. And once Paul began describing what it means to be a disciple of Jesus we get out super-secret-hidden-in-plain-sight job description as Christians.

Building the Walls

This lesson reviews the goals and values Northwest has and the challenges it seeks to overcome in the future. It also looks at Nehemiah and the way he led Jerusalem to rebuild the walls through prayer, unity, commitment to righteousness, and extreme focus. Certainly there is much we can learn from Nehemiah today.

Good Grief

So often our world tells grieving people to "Get over it," or "Feel better." But grief is God's gift to help us honor our losses and heal our broken hearts. It doesn't feel good but it's healthy and necessary. This sermon looks that the importance of Biblical good grieving and looks forward to our coming Grief Seminary and GriefShare support groups.

Small Acts of Kindness

Nathan encouraged the church to seek out little ways to make a big difference for the Kingdom. He looks at Judges and Ruth and how kindness is a big deal.  

Baptism

We know that baptism is where our sins are washed away and we receive the gift of salvation. But there is so much more that happens in the water. We are brought into the family of God and have a new group of people we belong to. We have the divisions and prejudices of the world removed. We receive the gift of the Holy Spirit which begins to shape and transform us into the image of our Creator. Ultimately, Jesus died on the cross for us, and baptism is where we publicly declare that we are willing to give our life for Jesus Christ, sharing in his death and resurrection. 

Purity

This sermon encourages single adults to use their freedom for God while staying sexually pure. It talks about the spiritual and relational consequences of sexual immorality and the benefits of sex in marriage. There is some advice for parents in how to talk to their kids about sex and finally some larger points about purity as a broader and very important spiritual goal for all Christians. 

WWJD Serving and Giving

Jeff and Kent talked about the story of Pants and Pancakes and the need for Northwest to find new ways to build bridges into our community and to serve them with the love of Christ.

Ain‘t No Rock

Worship is about more than singing to God. Worship is anytime and anyway that you show God your adoration. Further, worship brings us into God's presence and fills us with God's Spirit. Certainly such an experience should transform us. Finally, when Jesus entered Jerusalem his followers praised him as the Messiah, finally arriving. The Pharisees told Jesus to silence them but he declared that if they were quiet the rocks would cry out and praise him. Today, Christians should never be silent and give their place of praise God to rocks.

The Sharpest Mirror

As we continue our FaithPath series, we are studying the importance of the Bible to growing in knowledge, in relationship with God, and spiritual growth. The word of God is active and alive, it provides a mirror that shows us what God sees in us, how reading God's word can help us follow his commands, and how if we don't have God's Word in our lives we can't produce great fruit.
